In Karimnagar, a special police team has apprehended 12 BRS leaders, including four corporators, and the spouses of three corporators, along with five party officials, for instigating fear among the public. Many of those detained have strong ties to former minister and Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar. Among those arrested on Wednesday night were Edla Ashok from Kisannagar (husband of 25th division corporator E. Saritha), Kasetti Srinivas from Theegalaguttapalli (husband of 2nd division corporator K. Lavanya), and Tula Balaiah from RTC Colony (husband of 20th division corporator T. Rajeshwari). They face charges related to land grabbing through falsified documents and intimidation tactics.
These BRS leaders stand accused of orchestrating a climate of fear in Karimnagar district through their involvement in land mafia operations, demolishing residences, and fabricating ownership papers. In response to numerous complaints from affected individuals, Police Commissioner Abhishek Mohanty assembled a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), comprised of seasoned law enforcement officials, to dismantle the land mafia network.
Previously, on February 20, authorities had apprehended Nandelli Mahipal, a former president of the district Olympic association, and Durgam Jagan Goud. Earlier arrests included four BRS corporators: Sudagoni Krishna Goud (18th division), Jangle Sagar (21st division), Bhuma Goud (41st division), and Thota Ramulu (12th division), alongside Chiti Rama Rao and Naimmashetty Shyam. Police sources indicate that cases have been filed, and a pursuit is underway for two additional BRS leaders who are currently evading arrest.
