Adilabad – Cybercrime is growing fast, and criminals are using smarter tricks to target people, said Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan. He warned the public to stay alert and aware to avoid falling into traps.
According to Mahajan, many cybercriminals are now using APK files shared through platforms like Telegram and WhatsApp. These files can give hackers control over your phone. He emphasized that awareness and quick action are key to stopping these crimes.
If someone becomes a victim, they should immediately call the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 or report it on the official cybercrime.gov.in website.
In just one week, police in Adilabad district received 15 cybercrime complaints. The scams included investment frauds, fake loans, UPI payment frauds, misleading APK files, bogus websites, and fake stock market schemes.
One common trick involves fake investment platforms. Criminals create websites that show high profits to lure victims. But the money shown is fake — it doesn’t exist.
In one case reported at the Adilabad 1-Town police station, a man received a link on Telegram. He was told he could earn money by giving hotel ratings on WhatsApp. Believing it, he transferred ₹40,000 using UPI.
In another incident, scammers posed as a well-known person to offer fake financial help in Bela Mandal. They convinced a victim to share bank details and stole ₹21,000.
In a separate case, someone created a fake Instagram account in Adilabad Rural. The impersonator harassed the real person’s family and friends with video calls and messages. Police have reported the issue to Instagram.
In Jainath Mandal, a victim who had taken a loan through Mudra Finance received a video call. The caller demanded an advance payment. Trusting the call, the victim lost ₹22,150.
SP Akhil Mahajan urged everyone to be cautious while online, especially when dealing with unknown links, messages, or financial offers. He said public awareness is the best defense against today’s advanced cybercrimes.
