Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has decided to revive 203 Anna canteens in Amaravati. A 100-day action plan has been declared to reopen these canteens, with 184 already completed and the remaining 19 to be finished by September 21.
A committee has been formed under the Commissioners of Municipal Corporations and Public Health and Urban Planning Department officials to oversee the revival of the canteens. The government has directed the commissioners to assess the current condition of the canteens opened in 2019 and take necessary steps to bring them back into operation.
The government has suggested calling tenders for the completion of the remaining construction works according to the old design. Urban Local Bodies Commissioners will inspect the canteens in their jurisdiction on June 15 and submit a preliminary report on the condition of the building, furniture, and IoT devices.
By June 19, commissioners, along with municipal engineers and urban planning department officials, will prepare estimates for construction work as per the old design. On June 30, sites for new canteens that are yet to be constructed will be selected, and alternative buildings will be constructed for ward secretariats currently running in the canteens.
By July 30, agencies will be finalized to supply breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the canteens. Software providers will also be selected for IoT device mobilization, monitoring of canteens, smart billing, and donation management. Agreements with agencies for construction, equipment, software integration, and infrastructure will be approved by August 10.
On August 15, tenders for the construction of the remaining canteen buildings will be called, and agreements will be made with contractor companies. All utilities such as water, electricity, and internet will be included in the agreements. Finally, all 203 canteens in urban and municipal bodies are expected to be opened by September 21.
