Nine teenagers were shot at a prom after-party in east Texas early Sunday. The party was attended by hundreds of people. Deputies responded to the shooting at a private home in Jasper County just after midnight. They found nine victims with gunshot wounds. The injuries are not life-threatening.
About 250 people were at the party when the shooting happened, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Eight people were taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper, Texas. One person did not go to the hospital, and at least one person was transferred to Christus Southeast Texas-St. Elizabeth Hospital in nearby Beaumont, Texas.
Another shooting happened within the city limits of Jasper, Texas shortly after the first shooting. There were no injuries in the second shooting, but investigators are looking into a possible connection between the two incidents because of a common vehicle at both locations.
Police say they are questioning people of interest, and the investigation is ongoing.
