The Hyderabad authorities are taking a firm stance against illegal constructions on the Musi River. Commissioner AV Ranganath is addressing allegations of encroachments along the river. In a letter dated October 22, Ranganath instructed the Gandipet Mandal Tahsildar to clearly define the boundaries, particularly in Survey No. 476 in Manchirevula Village, and ensure the limits of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) are clearly established.

Complaints from local residents and representatives about Sri Aditya constructions have been brought to the attention of the Commissioner. The issues involve the width of the river, the ORR boundary, and the construction site. The authorities suspect encroachments in the Manchirevula Village Survey No. 476, with land being filled and riverbanks being unlawfully occupied, potentially benefiting from the ORR project.

According to DEM data, Sri Aditya Kedia Realtors allegedly occupied 0.37 acres of a stream connecting to the Musi River, with the river’s width being 23 meters at this location. Construction has reportedly encroached upon 0.48 acres of the river’s buffer zone. The average width of the stream is 16 meters, originating from Muskin Cheruvu/Nagireddy Kunta and passing through Kokapet and Narsingi.

The Irrigation Department issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) on October 8, 2021, stating that construction should only proceed after the stream’s realignment. However, Sri Aditya Kedia Realtors commenced the project without completing the new water channel, violating conditions. The closure of the 16-meter-wide stream led to flooding in Kokapet and Narsingi during recent rains.

According to the National Remote Sensing Centre DEM data, 2.34 acres of land along the Musi River have been encroached upon by Sri Aditya Kedia Realtors. Building permissions granted by HMDA showed this area as a buffer zone, but data indicates that 3.03 acres are occupied and constructions are ongoing within the buffer zone. The Survey of India maps show the Musi River area as 1.77 acres, with the buffer zone extending to 2.58 acres, all of which face encroachments.

Commissioner Ranganath also highlighted discrepancies within the land details of Survey No. 476 and instructed the Gandipet Tahsildar to verify these boundaries.
