A panel of experts discussed the importance of open-source Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Hyderabad. They highlighted the need for collaboration between governments and communities to advance the open-source AI model.
Rajendran Kousik, a principal architect at AWS, explained that open-source AI allows developers and contributors to share information without restrictive licensing. This promotes innovation by providing access to a wide range of data and code, enabling the development of solutions and tools without starting from scratch.
Ranganathan B, CTO and founder of Everest Engineering, emphasized the role of government in creating regulations similar to the AI Act in Europe to govern the use of open-source AI, particularly in areas like atomic research. He also called for support from the corporate sector in these initiatives.
Ramesh Loganathan, from CIE, IIT-H, described open source as a community effort to create knowledge accessible to a larger audience. He highlighted the social value of creating data related to Indian languages commercially, emphasizing the importance of open sources in such endeavors.
