Hyderabad: The All India Dental Students and Surgeons Association (AIDSA) praised the Telangana Dental Council (TDC) for a significant announcement. This notice confirms that Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMFS) are officially allowed to perform facial aesthetic procedures and hair transplants.
The decision is based on the Gazette-published MDS Course Regulations (3rd Amendment, 2019) and several communications from the Dental Council of India (DCI). This brings important legal clarity to a field often misunderstood. AIDSA President Dr. Manzur Ahmed highlighted that OMFS experts can legally handle procedures involving the face, skin, hair, jaw, and bone. The Telangana Dental Council advises the public to ignore unauthorized claims. The guidelines are legally enforceable under the Dentists Act, 1948, confirming OMFS procedures as part of the recognized practice when performed by registered professionals.
The AIDSA believes this notice allows OMFS professionals to practice confidently in private, academic, and hospital settings. It encourages postgraduate students to understand their full training scope and to pursue advanced skills ethically. Dental clinics and hospitals can now expand their services under OMFS, enhancing patient care and teamwork. Young dental graduates now have a clearer path in aesthetic facial surgery. AIDSA urges other state councils to issue similar notices for consistency across India.
Dr. Manzur stated that this achievement aligns with AIDSA’s efforts to ensure professional recognition and public trust in dentistry. “Such actions protect dental professionals’ rights and improve healthcare standards,” he said, thanking the Telangana Dental Council leadership for their transparency and dedication to dental ethics.
