Hyderabad: At NIMS Hospital, four of the thirty-three people who drank contaminated toddy are receiving dialysis. Doctors are closely monitoring them. Thankfully, all patients at the hospital are now safe.
On Thursday, six more people were admitted after drinking toddy. They arrived with vomiting and diarrhea.
Dr. N Beerappa, Director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, confirmed that thirty-three patients are being treated and are stable. Earlier in the week, five people died after consuming tainted toddy in Kukatpally. No new deaths occurred on Thursday, and officials expect patients to recover in three to four days.
Symptoms among patients included dizziness, severe gastroenteritis, diarrhea, and low blood pressure. Four individuals are on dialysis, with all receiving comprehensive medical care. Dr. Beerappa stated that a specialized team is overseeing the situation.
The Excise Office has closed the toddy shops and arrested five people: Nagesh Goud, Batti Srinivas Goud, T Srinivas Goud, K Kumar Goud, and Teegala Ramesh.
Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao promised strict action against those responsible for the adulteration to prevent future incidents. Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narsimha also visited the hospital on Thursday to check on the patients’ conditions.
