Silver filigree made of silver strings in Karimnagar has received many awards and its fame has spread across the world. The filigree artists recently received an order to create gifts for guests attending a wedding at Ambani’s house. The president of the Silver Filigree of Karimnagar (SIFKA) Handicrafts Welfare Society, A Ashok, shared insights in an exclusive interview with The Hans India.

Filigree, also known as filigrann or filigrene, is a delicate form of jewelry metal work typically made of gold and silver. It involves tiny beads or twisted threads soldered onto a metal surface to create artistic motifs. The history of filigree can be traced back to Italian and French metal work from the 17th to 19th centuries. Karimnagar silver filigree, which has been flourishing for 400 years, received Geographical Indication (GI) status in 2007.
