The Anna Canteens, which had been closed for five years, reopened on Thursday in celebration of Independence Day. A total of 100 canteens were launched across the state.
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated one of the Anna Canteens in Gudivada, located in the Krishna district. He was accompanied by his wife, Bhuvaneshwari, as well as ministers Kollu Ravindra, MPs, and MLAs. Together, they served meals to attendees and shared a meal with people from the community. The canteens are offering meals and snacks for just Rs 5.
These canteens were originally in operation during the TDP regime from 2014 to 2019 but were closed by the previous YSRCP government. The current NDA government fulfilled its election promise by reopening them. Initially, there was a plan to open 203 canteens at once, but only 100 were opened in this first phase due to incomplete building construction. Ministers and MLAs inaugurated the canteens across the districts.
