    Amritpal Singh, a leader of the Waris Punjab De (WPD) group and supporter of the pro-Khalistan movement, was arrested by Punjab Police in Moga on April 23. He is suspected of violating the National Security Act (NSA). The police department confirmed his arrest on Twitter and urged people to maintain peace and verify information before sharing it.

    Amritpal is expected to be taken to the major jail in Dibrugarh, Assam, where eight members of his group have already been transferred and charged with violating the NSA. The police had detained 78 people on March 18 and were looking for Amritpal in connection with other criminal cases. Earlier, his supporters had stormed a police station in Ajnala, demanding the release of one of his aides.

    Amritpal is facing charges under the Indian Penal Code for attempted murder, attacking police officers, and obstructing their duties.
