Hyderabad – Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar praised the central government’s decision to hold a caste census along with the upcoming population census, calling it a “historic move.” He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking this bold step.
Kumar believes the new approach will help the entire country. By using a scientific method, the census will accurately show how different castes are spread across India. He said this data will support fairer reservation policies that won’t harm any particular group.
He criticized the opposition parties, saying they are trying to twist the narrative. According to him, they’re portraying the government’s decision as a win for the Congress Party, even though that party has long avoided such action.
Kumar highlighted that since independence, the Congress Party has never completed a proper caste census. He pointed out that earlier censuses did not include caste details and accused Congress of ignoring repeated demands.
He reminded that in 2010, when many political parties asked for a caste census, the then Congress-led government under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh only formed a group of ministers. Instead of launching a full-scale caste census, they carried out a basic survey, which Kumar claimed lacked scientific accuracy.
He emphasized that the current government’s move is different. It aims to bring transparency and fairness to policy-making by finally collecting detailed and reliable caste data.
