Hyderabad: Aleti Maheshwar Reddy, leader of the BJP Legislative Party in Telangana, launched a strong attack on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), calling its governance a symbol of failure and corruption.
Speaking at a press meet on Monday, Reddy accused both the BRS and the Congress of teaming up to spread lies about the BJP. He claimed the people of Telangana can no longer trust these parties.
Reddy said that K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), the BRS chief and former Chief Minister, made meaningless accusations in his recent speech. He blamed KCR for ruining Telangana after the state was formed.
He mocked the recently held silver jubilee event of the BRS, saying despite spending ₹150 crore, they couldn’t gather even one lakh people. “The event was a flop. People are tired of listening to KCR,” Reddy added.
Reddy also questioned KCR’s sudden sympathy for Maoists in Chhattisgarh. KCR had suggested that Naxalites be invited for talks. Reddy asked why the BRS government never held such talks while in power, and why there were so many police encounters during their rule.
He reminded that even during the time when KCR was part of the Congress-led government in undivided Andhra Pradesh, encounter killings happened. “Is KCR remembering the Maoists only after losing power?” he questioned.
Reddy accused the BRS of pushing Telangana into deep economic trouble. He pointed out that the debt of united Andhra Pradesh was ₹70,000 crore, but after Telangana’s formation, the debt has reached a shocking ₹8 lakh crore.
He criticized the Kaleshwaram project, calling it a massive failure. “It didn’t bring water to even one acre of land. It’s not a lift irrigation project, it’s a return irrigation project,” he said. Reddy also cited the National Dam Safety Authority, which reported major flaws in the project’s construction and design.
He accused the BRS of wasting thousands of crores through Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya, claiming these schemes only helped contractors. He also alleged large-scale misuse of public money through the Dharani portal and illegal sale of forest and temple lands.
Reddy concluded by saying the 9.5 years of BRS rule have been harmful to Telangana. He claimed both the BRS, which took credit for statehood, and the Congress, which promises change today, have betrayed the public.
