Hyderabad – After years of waiting, the long-delayed Road Over Bridge (RoB) at Uddamgadda railway halt in Shastripuram is now nearly complete. Commuters can expect it to open soon.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reports that about 90% of the construction work is finished. This includes the ramps on both sides of the bridge near National Highway-44 in Rangareddy district.
The project faced major delays due to poor coordination between GHMC and Indian Railways. Originally proposed in 2017, the bridge was meant to solve serious traffic congestion in the area. However, actual construction only began in 2021, following years of discussion.
This RoB is a key link connecting NH-44, Old Kurnool Road, and the Srisailam Highway. Once open, it will save time for thousands of daily commuters and ease the traffic burden around the Uddamgadda railway crossing.
With a total cost of ₹71 crore, the project included land acquisition and relocation of utilities. According to Dattupant, GHMC’s Superintendent Engineer (Project Wing), work on the 490-metre-long structure is nearly done. “Only a few finishing touches remain,” he said.
The bridge is expected to open to the public by August 2025.
Earlier, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi criticized the long delays. Speaking in the Lok Sabha during discussions on the Railway Amendment Bill 2024, he sarcastically remarked that the Shastripuram RoB, along with another in Falaknuma, could qualify for a “record” in delays.
Residents and commuters now look forward to the bridge finally easing their daily travel struggles after nearly eight years of inconvenience.
