Khammam: After several days of heavy rain, the main canal of the Sitarama project, recently inaugurated by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, suffered severe damage. Floodwaters entered the canal, causing a major rupture.

At the second pumphouse of the project, located in Mulakalapalli Mandal near VK Ramavaram, around 40 to 50 feet of the canal’s bund was washed away. As a result, the floodwaters caused damage to crops in nearby agricultural areas.

In addition, the ring bund of the Peddavagu medium irrigation project in Gummadavelli hamlet, located in the Aswaraopet mandal of the district, was also washed away due to significant inflows. This is not the first time the project has faced issues; in July of this year, a major breach near the spillway led to extensive damage.
