Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party is currently facing a significant challenge as several of its leaders and members have started leaving the party, particularly within the city limits. Many of these individuals have already joined the Congress party, and more are expected to follow suit.

For a brief period during the Hindu month of ‘Ashada Masam,’ the departure of BRS members slowed down. However, now that ‘Sravana Masam’ has begun, it appears that more BRS leaders are planning to leave and join the ruling Congress party. The Congress party is reportedly making a strong effort to attract both corporators and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from the BRS. Their goal is to strengthen their position before the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. The term of the current civic body is set to end between February and March 2026.

The Congress party had a negligible presence in the GHMC during the BRS regime, as it was largely wiped out of the city. Even in the recent Lok Sabha elections, the BRS failed to secure any of the four city seats. Now, the Congress is working hard to gain influence in the city by attracting BRS leaders.

The BRS party is reportedly concerned about this trend of leaders leaving. Prominent MLAs like Danam Nagender, Arikepudi Gandhi, and Prakash Goud have already exited the party. Additionally, some former BRS members are now seen aligning themselves with Congress leaders. Many former corporators who were once with the BRS have also switched their allegiance to the Congress.
