Hyderabad: A diverse group of over 70 social activists, academics, and legal experts have criticized the state government’s decision to award the controversial film ‘Razakar’. They have called on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to revoke the award given to ‘Razakar’ in the ‘Best Film on History’ category and requested an independent investigation into possible award regulation breaches.
In a letter to the CM, Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Arvind Kumar, the Managing Director of Telangana State Film Development Corporation, the signatories expressed their concerns. They described ‘Razakar (Silent Genocide of Hyderabad)’ as a divisive film, claiming it misrepresents history and unfairly targets the Muslim community by suggesting their involvement in a ‘Silent Genocide of Hyderabad’.
The film, backed by BJP leaders, aims to polarize society, according to the group. Among the signatories are S Q Masood, Rama Melkote, Veena Shatrugna, Dr. Prakash Louis, Anand Singh, Dr. Ram Puniyani, Susie Tharu, Advocate L Ravichander, Shantha Sinha, Dr. Jasveen Jairath, Bizeth Banerjee, and Meera Sanghamitra.
