Andhra Pradesh CM Promises Support to Flood Victims
AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu assured citizens that the government would address all concerns of flood victims promptly, regardless of the cost. He urged the public to actively demand and collect essential relief kits provided by the government, emphasizing that the kits would be delivered door-to-door despite various challenges.
The Chief Minister revealed that a long-term solution for the Budameru river issue was in progress. He stressed that the government’s priority was to minimize the number of people affected, not the expenses involved. A preliminary report estimating Rs 6,880 crore in damages has already been submitted to the central government. Chandrababu also warned that strict action would be taken against those trying to misuse relief efforts, saying, “If anyone cheats, grab their collar, I will take care of it.”
Citizens were encouraged to ask for their relief kits if they had not yet received them. According to the CM, 75% of the people preferred door-to-door distribution, which the government aims to complete within the next two days. The government also plans to collaborate with Urban Company to provide essential services like repairs by skilled professionals at subsidized rates.
During his field visits, the Chief Minister noticed many requests for employment. In response, he promised both physical and virtual job opportunities, with training programs in various sectors starting the next day. He also assured that issues related to insurance claims would be resolved within a week.
Chandrababu took a strong stance against the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) for spreading false propaganda about the flood relief efforts. He also accused anti-social elements of trying to disrupt the aid distribution process. The Chief Minister expressed suspicion over boats found near the barrage, suggesting possible foul play.
The CM also condemned false rumors circulating on social media, especially those claiming that the government had withdrawn its support from the central government or that ministers had resigned. He warned that those responsible for spreading such misinformation would face strict consequences.
Addressing concerns about the Budameru river, Chandrababu assured that breaches in the river had been repaired, preventing further flooding. He blamed the previous administration for past mistakes that led to these breaches and criticized them for not using the allocated funds for necessary repairs.
The Chief Minister also raised concerns about areas still submerged in water, particularly Rajarajeshwari Peta, where water levels remain high and food supplies are insufficient. With more rain expected in the coming days, the government is taking all necessary precautions, as one TMC of water is still present in the city.
