Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Water Board is conducting a 90-day special drive to prevent sewage overflow in the city. On Thursday, the managing director of the Water Board, Ashok Reddy, visited several areas in Old City and Secunderabad to inspect the situation.
According to officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), some of the areas he inspected included Musarambagh, Yakhutpura, and Sitafalmandi. In Yakhutpura, road widening and canal construction have caused an increase in silt, leading to sewage overflowing onto the streets. To address this, officials have ordered the construction of a new sewage pipeline for a long-term solution, and de-silting will be done immediately as a temporary fix.
This special drive by the Water Board aims to tackle ongoing sewage issues across Hyderabad. Senior officials are visiting different areas daily to monitor and resolve problems. Some issues have already been fixed, but the drive will continue until December 31, according to a senior HMWSSB officer.
