As Diwali approaches, the markets in Hyderabad are buzzing with excitement. Shoppers are flocking to buy both traditional and modern items for the festival. Traders are happy to report that this year’s hustle and bustle is much greater compared to last year.

In places like Begum Bazar and Secunderabad, the streets are filled with people carrying bags full of festive goodies. Additionally, many roadside stalls have popped up in residential areas, offering a wide range of Diwali items.

These stalls and markets are stocked with various types of diyas (earthen lamps). The options range from simple clay diyas to more intricate ones, such as water-light diyas. The variety aims to cater to the different tastes of customers.

Traders have noticed a steady rise in sales, with people buying everything from lighting and decorative items to crackers. The price of diyas depends on their style. Traditional diyas are priced between Rs 5 and Rs 20 each, while decorative ones can range from Rs 80 to Rs 200. Additionally, there is a growing demand for fancy and electric diyas this year. Prices for many items have increased by 10 to 15 percent due to rising costs.

A salesperson from Shanti Fire Works noted that Diwali wouldn’t be complete without crackers. They are expecting a good turnout, especially since this year, many stalls are selling eco-friendly green crackers.

Ramesh Yadav, a shopkeeper in Begum Bazar, shared that floating and scented diyas, as well as battery-operated water diyas, are especially popular. He has stocked up on these items in anticipation of high demand. With just a few days left before Diwali, he’s ready to welcome more customers.

Similarly, Sravanti, a diya seller at Pot Market in Secunderabad, mentioned that the market saw a heavy rush last weekend. Due to an increase in raw material costs, she had to raise the price of terracotta diyas by five percent, but she remains optimistic about the approaching festival days.
