Hyderabad is preparing to take part in a large-scale civil defense drill on May 7, as part of a nationwide emergency training exercise led by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The drill comes in the wake of a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 civilians lost their lives. In response, the central government has ordered all states and union territories to conduct full-scale mock drills simulating emergency situations such as hostile attacks.
In Hyderabad, four major locations are set for the exercise: Secunderabad, DRDO Kanchanbagh, NFC Moulali, and the Golconda area. Activities will begin at 4 p.m., involving both defense personnel and local authorities working together in carefully planned emergency scenarios.
The goal is to test how quickly and effectively different agencies—and the public—can react to threats like air raids, mass casualties, or natural disasters. Everyone involved will play specific roles, from evacuating people to providing immediate medical care, simulating what would happen in a real crisis.
Officials say this is the largest civil defense operation India has seen since the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Other cities, including Visakhapatnam, will also carry out similar drills to check how well regions can coordinate during emergencies.
Authorities stress that this is only a precaution and not a real threat. They ask residents to stay calm, follow instructions, and cooperate with responders during the drill.
