Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Telangana for the next three days. In response, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has alerted the state’s administration. All staff leaves are canceled, and officials must be present at work during the rain.
The Chief Minister has instructed officials to ensure safety measures are in place. Vehicles are not allowed on flooded bridges and roads in low-lying areas. Special precautions are necessary to prevent livestock loss near water bodies.
Revanth Reddy held a videoconference with district collectors and department heads from the Command Control Centre. He reviewed the preparedness for heavy rains. Special officers will monitor affected districts. He referred to past incidents in Khammam and Warangal districts where rains caused significant damage and loss of life, emphasizing such events must not happen again.
Irrigation officials have been told to monitor water levels in projects and ponds. They should also focus on hydroelectric power and regularly inform the public about water releases in low areas. Precautionary steps are required to prevent breaches in ponds and water bodies.
Regarding electricity, the Chief Minister urged the department to be on standby 24/7. Mobile transformers, generators, and equipment should be ready. Medical and health officials must ensure adequate medicine supplies, especially for pregnant women, in Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and Community Health Centers (CHCs).
Revanth Reddy asked district collectors about relief efforts during the rains. He directed the relocation of people from low-lying areas to relief camps. The Animal Husbandry department must file reports when animals like cattle, goats, and sheep die from lightning, ensuring compensation for affected families.
In Hyderabad, specific instructions were given for rescue and relief operations. The Chief Minister asked police commissioners to coordinate effectively. Departments like GHMC, HYDRAA, police, fire services, disaster management, and MA&UD were instructed to work together for rescue and traffic management. HYDRAA will set up a toll-free number to address public concerns quickly.
