Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has finalised 650 acres of land in Bahadurguda near Shamshabad airport for the development of Hyderabad’s bullet train hub. The ambitious project aims to position the city as a major high-speed rail connectivity centre in southern India. The location near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has been strategically chosen to provide seamless multi-modal transport integration for passengers travelling across the region.
The Shamshabad bullet train hub is planned as a three-terminal integrated facility that will connect Hyderabad to four major metropolitan cities including Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai. The high-speed trains are expected to operate at speeds of up to 350 kilometres per hour, significantly reducing travel time between these cities. The hub will serve as a critical intersection point for three major high-speed rail corridors linking these metros.
The project site is situated near RGIA and will be integrated with the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to ensure high accessibility for commuters. This strategic positioning is expected to facilitate easy connectivity between air and rail transport, making it convenient for both domestic and international travellers. The 650-acre development will accommodate the infrastructure required for multiple high-speed rail terminals and associated facilities.
According to the project timeline, travel times from Hyderabad to Bengaluru and Chennai are estimated to be under 3 hours, while the journey to Pune is expected to take approximately 90 minutes. These significantly reduced travel durations are expected to transform regional connectivity and boost economic activity across the southern states. The high-speed rail network will offer a faster alternative to both road and air travel for these routes.
The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the bullet train hub are scheduled to be prepared between September 2026 and May 2027. This phase will involve comprehensive planning, feasibility studies, and technical assessments required for the massive infrastructure project. Following the completion of DPRs, the necessary approvals and clearances will be sought from relevant authorities.
Construction work on the Shamshabad bullet train hub is expected to commence by 2028, with full operations projected to begin in the early 2030s. The project represents a significant step in India’s high-speed rail ambitions and is expected to enhance Telangana’s position as a major transportation and economic hub in the country.
