Hyderabad: State Irrigation, Food & Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy announced the distribution of new ration cards starting July 14 in Tirumalagiri within the Tungaturthi constituency. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will officially launch the program, with participation from Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka. The Minister instructed officials to finish verifying all eligible applications by July 13 to ensure no deserving family is missed. He emphasized a transparent and corruption-free selection process for beneficiaries.
“The goal is for every eligible individual to receive a ration card without bias,” he stated, noting that review meetings will occur twice monthly for better oversight.
Reddy highlighted Telangana’s major initiative of providing free fine rice, offering 6 kg monthly per person to about 3.10 crore people, which constitutes roughly 84% of the population, through fair price shops. This program costs over Rs 13,000 crore annually. In June, July, and August, the state distributed three months’ worth of rations at once to ensure a steady supply, giving out 18 kg per person, 105 kg per Antyodaya family, and 30 kg per Annapurna family.
He criticized the former BRS government for its lack of attention to food security and inadequate ration card enrolment. “When Telangana was formed in 2014, there were 89.73 lakh white ration cards, but the BRS issued only about 49,000 new cards, mainly during by-elections, neglecting many families,” Reddy remarked. He mentioned that the Congress government is actively processing the large number of new applications they have received.
