Nirmal, Telangana – District Collector Abhilasha Abhinav has ordered officials to improve conditions at paddy procurement centres to support local farmers and prevent delays.
During a surprise visit on Wednesday to the procurement centre in Andakur village, Kuntala mandal, the Collector found serious issues. The centre, run by PACS, lacked basic facilities like proper tents and clean drinking water. Upset by the poor arrangements, she imposed a fine of ₹2 lakh and demanded strong disciplinary action against those responsible.
She made it clear that paddy brought in by farmers must be weighed and moved without delay. She stressed that the moisture content of paddy must meet the required standards. To help with smooth operations, she told officials to keep enough gunny bags and tarpaulins ready at all times.
The Collector also checked the centre’s records and asked for updates on how much paddy had been purchased so far. With the rainy season approaching, she urged farmers to stay alert and report any problems immediately.
She recommended using paddy cleaning machines to improve the quality of the produce. Additional Collector (Revenue) Kishore Kumar, RDO Komal Reddy, and several other officials joined her during the inspection.
