Mahabubnagar: The District Collector, Vijayendra Boi, has announced the creation of a special committee called the ‘Empowerment Committee’ to help poor prisoners. These are prisoners who have been granted bail but are still in jail because they cannot afford to pay for their surety and security deposits.
This committee will operate at the district level and includes important officials such as the District Collector, the Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, the District Superintendent of Police (SP), and the District Jail Superintendent. The committee held its first meeting on Saturday. Additionally, in-charge judges and the superintendent of the concerned jail will also be part of this committee.
During the meeting, the Collector emphasized that the government is working to reduce the delays faced by financially disadvantaged prisoners who cannot pay for their bail deposits.
In the first meeting, the committee decided to appoint the District Prohibition Officer as the nodal officer of the District Empowerment Committee. The committee plans to meet again on August 30 to discuss how to put this plan into action.
