In Hyderabad, Sircilla district Congress leader Nevuri Venkat Reddy announced that the government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, plans to introduce an ordinance granting 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies. He shared this news during a media briefing at MLA Colony, Road No. 12, Banjara Hills on Wednesday.
Despite the positive moves by CM Revanth Reddy, some opposition leaders continue to protest. Venkat Reddy urged these protests to stop, highlighting that past governments failed to accurately determine the BC population. However, CM Revanth Reddy and PCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud, following Rahul Gandhi’s guidance, successfully completed a detailed BC caste census.
This initiative has made the country take notice of the “Telangana Model,” according to Venkat Reddy. The 42% reservation in local elections will benefit the BC community significantly, strengthening their political involvement. He believes this move creates a debt of gratitude towards the Congress government.
Venkat Reddy criticized opposition parties for spreading false information. He accused the BRS party, in power for a decade without supporting BCs, of now staging unnecessary protests.
He also highlighted that since the Congress came to power, numerous beneficial schemes for the poor have been launched. These include free electricity, Rythu Bharosa (Farmer Support), the Mahalakshmi Scheme, subsidized gas, and fine rice distribution. These initiatives have been well-received by the public.
