Hyderabad: The AICC has called on State BC leaders to support the Caste Census initiative in their region, as it sets a precedent nationwide. Rahul Gandhi and K C Venugopal attended a meeting in Delhi where Telangana was praised for influencing the central government’s plan to include caste enumeration in the upcoming census. Public meetings and rallies in the state will celebrate this achievement.
At a national gathering of OBC representatives in Delhi, attended by ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and other party leaders, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar emphasized that Telangana conducted a caste census, serving as a model for the country. Ponnam noted that the central government plans to conduct a similar census nationwide, inspired by the efforts of the Congress-led government in Telangana. He quoted Rahul Gandhi, saying that the caste census will ensure justice for weaker sections by allocating resources based on population.
Ponnam stressed that the caste census is inclusive and not targeted against anyone. It will enable BCs who have been excluded for years to engage more fully in democratic processes.
