Hyderabad: The Congress party plans to conduct local elections only after ensuring a 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs).
At a meeting on Monday of the PCC’s Extended Executive, AICC State incharge Meenakshi Natarajan emphasized their commitment to this reservation. The party aims to secure this before local body elections happen.
The PCC intends to challenge the BRS and BJP, accusing them of blocking BC reservation efforts. A significant public meeting is planned in Kamareddy on September 15 to discuss BC issues and push for presidential approval on reservation bills. During the meeting, presided over by PCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud and attended by Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Bhatti suggested welcoming back former Congress leaders who had left. This proposal was approved to send a positive message.
The meeting also praised the 22-month leadership of CM Revanth Reddy. His government distributed fine rice, issued over 60,000 ration cards in Hyderabad, advanced Indiramma housing, and supplied fertilizers. Construction of 3,500 houses per constituency is ongoing with timely bill payments.
The PCC reviewed the local body reservation policy, reaffirming 42% for BCs while maintaining SC and ST reservations. Regarding the Kaleshwaram project, Congress pointed out corruption allegations, even involving family members, and plans to inform the public. The Congress highlighted its track record of bringing Godavari Phase-I, Krishna, and Manjeera waters and is now working on Godavari Phase-II.
