The Medaram Maha Jatara, the largest tribal fair in Asia, will occur from January 28 to 31 next year, according to the priests’ association. This event takes place in Medaram within the Tadwai mandal of Mulugu district and is expected to draw millions of devotees from all over India.
Festivities begin on January 28 with a grand procession featuring Saralamma, Govindaraju, and Pagiddidda Raju. The next day, Sammakka Thalli arrives at the gadde from Chilakalagutta. On January 30, devotees will pay their respects, leading to the Vana Pravesha programme on January 31, where many will honor Sammakka, Saralamma Vanadevatalu, Govinda Raju, and Pagiddidda Raju.
The Telangana government declared the Medaram Jatara a state festival in 2014, which has led to increased attendance from neighboring states like Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Karnataka. Devotees, often in the millions, offer jaggery, considered ‘gold’, to the goddess. Authorities make extensive arrangements to manage the large crowds.
