Hyderabad: On the fourth day of a 100-day initiative, the Municipal Administration department launched various activities. These included planting trees, holding rallies, organizing Swachh walks, cleaning lakes, and collecting plastic waste. They also hosted essay competitions.

To celebrate World Environment Day on Thursday, urban local bodies under the Commissioner and Directorate of Municipal Administration (CDMA) engaged in tree planting and rallies. A senior official mentioned that municipal staff will continue raising awareness through door-to-door visits, social media, and public announcements. They will also set up signboards, stalls, and kiosks. Efforts include promoting online water supply connections, forming groups for street vendors, linking self-help groups (SHGs) to banks, profiling waste collectors, testing water chlorination levels, and surveying urban poor women to form SHGs.

Volunteers joined to raise awareness about protecting water bodies. The Hyderabad Citizens Forum Hyderabad Zindabad organized a human chain with the theme ‘Save Hussain Sagar – Save Hyderabad’ on World Environment Day. Their slogan was ‘End Plastic Pollution’. A large human chain formed around a plastic globe at Tank Bund.

The CDMA started a 100-day plan in urban local bodies on June 2. The main goals are improving waste management and sanitation, preparing for the monsoon by enhancing civic infrastructure, encouraging behavioral change and community involvement through campaigns about solid waste management, promoting urban greenery, and beautifying cities. They also plan a comprehensive Bhuvan Survey to identify and tax properties that are unassessed or under-assessed in urban local bodies.
