The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) recently seized several pharmaceutical products that were being falsely advertised as nutraceuticals and medicines. These raids took place on August 28 and 29.
During the operation, the DCA officials from the Warangal Zone discovered a product called ‘Neurocad-G Tablets’ that was being marketed as a food item, even though it contains the drugs Gabapentin (300 mg) and Methylcobalamin (500 mg). The tablets were illegally manufactured by Pristine Remedies in Sonipat, Haryana, under a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license.
The DCA stated that this product should actually be classified as a drug under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. This means it must be manufactured with a proper drug license and must follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
One of the raids was led by Drugs Inspector A N Kranthi Kumar in Vikarabad, where drugs were seized from a medical shop in Tandur. The seized samples have been sent for further analysis.
Authorities have issued warnings that such illegal practices could pose serious health risks to the public. They also cautioned that those involved could face legal consequences, including imprisonment for up to five years under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
