Heated debates occurred between the defected MLAs and lawyers representing the BRS MLAs during a session with Speaker Gaddam Prasad on Wednesday.
During the proceedings, the defected MLAs claimed they had not joined the Congress party. In response, the BRS lawyers questioned their meetings with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. They challenged the MLAs to visit the Telangana Bhavan and engage in BRS activities if they hadn’t switched parties.
The lawyers further questioned the MLAs’ absence from BRS protest events.
To support their claims, the BRS lawyers submitted photographs showing the MLAs with Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. They presented these images and videos as affidavits.
The BRS advocates urged the Speaker to disqualify the MLAs, alleging their defection to Congress.
Previously, the defected MLAs’ lawyers had questioned the BRS MLAs about their allegations. This led to intense arguments between both sides, according to sources.
The hearing for four MLAs accused of defection concluded on Wednesday. A schedule for the remaining cases will be announced soon.
Meanwhile, MLA Kadiyam Srihari missed the deadline to respond on Wednesday and has not appeared in the Assembly. Danam Nagender claimed he hadn’t received any notices. The Speaker’s decision regarding these MLAs is awaited, with BRS providing evidence of their Congress affiliation.
The Supreme Court has set an October 30 deadline for the Speaker to make a decision.
