Due to heavy rain and a swollen river Yamuna, all schools in Delhi will be closed on Monday, according to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Delhi received 153 mm of rain in a 24-hour period, the most for a single day in July since 1982. The combination of a Western Disturbance and monsoonal winds has caused intense rainfall in northwest India, including Delhi, which had its first “very heavy” rainfall on Saturday. In light of the heavy rain and warnings from the meteorological department, all schools will remain closed on Monday. The highest rainfall in a 24-hour period in July since 1982 was recorded at 169.9 mm on July 25.
