Khammam, Telangana – A team of doctors at Ankura Hospital in Khammam has successfully carried out a rare and high-risk brain surgery on a 30-day-old baby boy, marking a major milestone in pediatric healthcare.
The infant was born several weeks premature in the Madhira constituency of Khammam district. Shortly after birth, he suffered a severe brain hemorrhage caused by ruptured nerves, which left him in a coma. With no movement or response, his condition was critical.
The worried parents first sought help at various hospitals in Khammam. However, doctors there advised them to go to Vijayawada or Hyderabad, citing the complexity and danger of the case. Lacking the means to travel to Hyderabad, the couple took their child to a top hospital in Vijayawada. Unfortunately, doctors there also declined to operate due to the high risk involved.
Left with limited options, the parents reached out to Ankura Hospital in Khammam. By then, the baby remained unconscious and had not received the urgent care he needed. Time was running out.
A specialized medical team at Ankura, using advanced surgical technology, took on the challenge. The team included Dr. Varun Jonnalagadda, Dr. Shwetha, Dr. Aparna, Dr. Rakesh, and Dr. Zakir. They performed the delicate brain surgery with precision and care.
On Wednesday, the doctors announced that the surgery was a success. The baby is now recovering, and the medical team is closely monitoring his progress.
This remarkable operation highlights Ankura Hospital's growing reputation in handling complex pediatric cases and brings hope to families facing similar challenges in rural and semi-urban areas.
