Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced that the State government has launched a fine rice distribution program to support people living below the poverty line. The goal is to ensure that every poor and underprivileged family has access to quality food.
On Wednesday, the Minister visited Subbampet village in Cherla mandal. There, he met Vasam Musalayya, a member of the ST Koya tribal community, who is a beneficiary of the rice scheme. The family cooked a traditional meal using the fine rice provided by the government.
The meal included pulihora, thokura pappu made from organic vegetables, gongura chutney, and other local dishes. The Minister joined the family for lunch and said the villagers were thrilled to welcome him into their home.
He shared that the rice scheme began during the Ugadi festival and was designed to boost food security for the economically weaker sections of society. According to him, the program is receiving a warm response across the State.
“So far, over 80% of the poor, including Dalits, tribals, and minority communities, have benefited from this initiative,” said Minister Ponguleti. He emphasized that the government wants citizens to feel involved in this major welfare effort.
Following his visit in Cherla, the Minister took part in several development activities in the Dummagudem and Bhadrachalam mandals.
Other key officials present included Bhadrachalam MLA Tellam Venkat Rao, PA PC Chairman Ravi Kumar, District Collector Jitesh V Patil, ITDA PO B Rahul, RDO Damodar Rao, former MLC Balasani Lakshminarayana, Housing PD Shankar, Tahsildar Srinivas, and MP O Mastan Ali.
These leaders joined the Minister as he reviewed ongoing government programs and engaged with local residents to understand their needs better.
