Aija, Jogulamba Gadwal District – A critical bridge connecting Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka has become a major threat to travelers. Located over the Pedda Vagu stream in Aija Municipality, the bridge is in a dangerously poor condition.
The structure has been falling apart for years. Now, only one side remains passable. This has caused severe traffic jams and increased the chance of accidents. Every day, drivers cross the weak bridge, fearing it might collapse beneath them.
Despite repeated complaints to the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, no repairs have been made. Local residents, activists, and an all-party committee have held protests and demonstrations. They’ve demanded either urgent repairs or the construction of a new bridge. However, their voices have been ignored.
Over the years, the bridge has seen several accidents, some deadly. Yet, neither ruling party officials nor opposition leaders have taken responsibility. People feel abandoned by their leaders.
Citizens are now calling on the district administration to act immediately. They want a safe solution—either fix the bridge or build a new one. The current situation is too dangerous to ignore.
Political fights have stalled development in the area. One party starts a project, and the other blocks it. Due to this ongoing rivalry, contractors hesitate to work in the region. Many leave projects unfinished, worsening the situation.
All-party committee leaders have urged politicians to put aside differences. They want all parties to focus on the region’s safety and progress. Although officials, including the District Collector, have been informed, no solid steps have been taken.
Residents of Aija and nearby areas now make a strong appeal to the District Collector. They ask for urgent instructions to the R&B department to address the issue. The bridge was once a vital link between three states. Today, it stands as a symbol of neglect—and a potential death trap, unless swift action is taken.
