    Education Sector Receives Rs 21,292 Crore Funding

    Hyderabad: Improving education standards, skilling, and filling vacant teacher jobs were the main focus of the state budget for 2024-25.

    On Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka presented the budget in the State Assembly. He proposed an allocation of Rs 21,292 crore for the education sector.

    Out of this, Rs 500 crore is set aside for infrastructure development in universities. Osmania University and Women’s University will each receive Rs 100 crore, while Kakatiya and other state universities will share Rs 300 crore.

    To strengthen school education, the government has already notified a mega DSC with 11,062 posts to fill existing teacher vacancies in government schools. These exams started on July 18.

    The Finance Minister criticized the previous government for harming the autonomy of universities by running them with in-charge vice-chancellors. He mentioned that the current State government has formed a search committee to appoint vice-chancellors for state universities.

    Additionally, the state entered into an agreement with Tata Technologies Limited to upgrade existing ITIs into centres of excellence. As part of this project, 65 ITIs will be transformed. The total cost of this public-private partnership project is Rs 2,324.2 crore, with the State government contributing Rs 307.95 crore and Tata Technologies covering the rest through its CSR program.

    The State government allocated Rs 300 crore for this project. Under this initiative, 5,860 students will be trained annually in six new long-term courses, and 31,200 students will receive training each year in short-term courses. These skill centres will provide training aligned with industrial needs, benefiting job seekers.
