Gadwal: Former MLA D.K. Bharat Simha Reddy has warned about the poor condition of Joorala Dam. He criticized both past and present governments for neglecting public assets and infrastructure. Speaking at a press conference in Gadwal, he accused them of prioritizing money over people.
Reddy criticized officials for ignoring public welfare, especially significant projects like Joorala. He called Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy’s claim that the dam is “safe” misleading.
Reddy pointed out issues with the dam’s structure. A tunnel included during construction is now filled with mud, causing continuous moisture in the dam. This could lead to severe damage.
“There are two lifts for this tunnel. Neither has worked for eight years,” Reddy said. No official has checked the silt or other damages inside.
He warned that silt buildup in the lower levels, especially the bottom eight meters, is putting dangerous pressure on the foundation. “The government gives false assurances instead of addressing this risk,” he said.
Reddy criticized the collapse of the dam’s crest gates and challenged authorities on its seriousness. He questioned the delay in paying contractors for repair work. “Without timely payments, how can contractors continue?” he asked.
Reddy also mentioned the incomplete Rayalampadu canals and leaks in the reservoir reported four years ago, which remain unaddressed.
He pointed out the decline of Gadwal’s seed industry, known for quality seed production. “A few powerful individuals and systemic failures are causing its collapse. The industry may soon disappear,” he warned.
Reddy claimed a feudal system dominates Gadwal, concentrating power and money with a few, leaving common people without benefits. “Development in Gadwal has stalled,” he concluded, urging immediate government action.
Reddy’s comments highlight the need for government accountability. He called for transparency, contractor payments, safety inspections, and commitment to developing Gadwal.
