Five individuals, including two minors, were apprehended in Khammam Rural mandal for selling fake Sony LED smart televisions. The task force investigators and Khammam rural police were responsible for their capture.
Task Force ACP Shiva Ramaiah and Khammam Rural ACP G Baswa Reddy revealed that they received a tip-off about two individuals involved in the counterfeit TV sales. Acting on this information, the police proceeded to Edulapuram village in the mandal and arrested the suspects. During interrogation, they confessed to their crimes. The culprits come from Islampur Ghasauli village in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh. They had previously engaged in the sale of bedsheets, gas stoves, and electrical equipment in Hyderabad.
Their plan was to sell the 32 smart TVs they had purchased in Hyderabad at a higher price by attaching fake Sony emblems, Sony QR codes, and star ratings to the displays. They rented a residence in Edulapuram and even installed software on the TVs to display Sony welcome messages when turned on. They marketed these TVs for Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000, falsely claiming that they were obtained from the Army Canteen Stores Department (CSD).
Saddam, Asif, and Anus Khan, the three adult defendants, were placed in judicial custody. The two underage offenders were presented before the Juvenile Court. The accused were found in possession of Rs. 2.9 lakh in cash, 32 43-inch TVs, a car, four motorbikes, pen drives, mobile phones, an Army canteen card, counterfeit stickers, and logos.
