Hyderabad: On Friday, 90 bakeries in Hyderabad were inspected by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) Food Safety Officers. These inspections revealed that many bakeries were not following food safety and hygiene rules.
The officers, following orders from GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan, checked all 90 bakeries in a single day. They found issues like insects on the premises, food waste littered on the floors, and open dustbins.
Additionally, many bakeries did not display their FSSAI licenses clearly. Items for sale often lacked ‘best before’ or ‘use by’ dates. Health records for staff and water analysis reports were missing. Many workers were also seen without hairnets.
Food Safety Officers instructed bakery owners to maintain high hygiene standards. They must ensure clean kitchens and proper labeling of food items. Violations could lead to legal action or closure of the bakeries.
