Hyderabad: The speed of vehicles in Hyderabad has noticeably increased, now averaging 24 to 25 km/h compared to last year’s 17 to 18 km/h. City Police Commissioner C V Anand attributed this improvement to the hard work of the Hyderabad Traffic Police and expressed his gratitude to all contributors.
On Friday, during a meeting about traffic issues in Hyderabad, C V Anand mentioned that around 1,600 new vehicles hit the roads daily. Across the three Commissionerates, there are 91 lakh vehicles traveling on the streets every day.
The Commissioner shared insights on traffic management principles. He noted that 80% of traffic signals in Hyderabad operate automatically, facilitating quicker traffic flow. For traffic violations, the focus is on meaningful penalties rather than the number of fines, resulting in decreased fines overall.
“We use drone cameras for monitoring traffic in Hyderabad,” revealed the Commissioner. To enhance the traffic system, Google provides support beyond just Google Maps, offering technical assistance. Additionally, 25 high-rise cameras are being installed on tall buildings in collaboration with building owners. These cameras provide an ‘Eagle View’ to help traffic officials detect issues early and advise local authorities on solutions.
