During the holy month of Ramzan, the popular dish of Hyderabad, Haleem, is being sold at high prices by hoteliers in the city. Despite the expectations of slow sales due to the high prices, larger chains of restaurants are reporting good sales this year.
The price of a bowl of Haleem ranges from Rs 250 to Rs 290, while a special plate can cost between Rs 320 and Rs 360 in hotels and restaurants. The hoteliers attribute this price hike to the rising cost of ingredients used to make Haleem.
Some Haleem lovers are concerned about the increasing prices each year and believe there should be a fixed price set by the administration or hotel associations. Major restaurant chains like Pista House, Hotel Shadab, and Shah Ghouse are selling Haleem for between Rs 250 and Rs 290 for 350 gms.
The owner of Lucky Group of restaurants mentioned that the prices have increased due to rising costs of essential commodities and labour charges. To make Haleem more affordable, Lucky Hotel is selling a 350 gms plate for Rs 230 and a value pack of 160 gms for Rs 150.
Labor charges have also increased after the COVID lockdown, with some Ustad teams charging higher fees this year. Many hotels have introduced value packs of Haleem to cater to customers with limited budgets.
Overall, there has been a surge in the preference for value-packaged Haleem among customers this year, leading to increased sales for some hotels.
