Nakrekal, Nalgonda: A tense situation developed at the Nakrekal Police Station when a large group of women gathered to protest. They demanded the arrest of former MLA Chirumarthi Lingaiah and BRS leader Cheruku Sudhakar.
The protest began after the police detained Nagendra Babu, a BRS social media activist, on Friday. Former MLA Lingaiah visited the police station and reportedly criticized Circle Inspector Rajashekar.
The women claimed that Babu was spreading false information on social media. Instead of supporting the police, Lingaiah allegedly made unfounded accusations against the Congress party, which the women criticized as inappropriate.
They accused BRS leaders of disturbing the peace in local villages. With placards and slogans, the women called for the immediate arrest of Chirumarthi Lingaiah for false claims and Cheruku Sudhakar for allegedly causing unrest.
The protestors later presented their demands to the CI. Many local women joined, showing their opposition to misinformation and political disturbances.
Earlier, Lingaiah claimed that police behaved like Congress supporters, unfairly targeting BRS activists. He criticized the arrest of Nagendra Babu from Mangalapally village, whose viral comment in a WhatsApp group led to his detention.
Lingaiah also accused officials of harassment, backed by the ruling party. He said he contacted the District Collector 26 times with no response, forcing him to attend a Grievance Day program. After a heated discussion, he submitted his complaint.
He further alleged that representations by former Nakrekal Market Committee Chairman Koppula Pradeep Reddy and former Chinnakaparthy Sarpanch Boya Vanishreen were intentionally ignored. Lingaiah claimed officials were pressured to file false reports as part of a political plot against Pradeep Reddy.
