Hyderabad: In an important update in the Telangana phone tapping case, the Indian Passport Authority has officially cancelled the passport of T Prabhakar Rao. Rao is the former head of the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) and a key suspect in the case. The Hyderabad police were informed about this cancellation.
This action was taken after Interpol issued a Red Corner Notice against him. Rao is currently living in the United States and had applied for a Green Card. However, now that his Indian passport has been cancelled, his Green Card application has reportedly been rejected.
Indian authorities believe Rao’s role in the phone tapping case is very important. They are making serious efforts to bring him back for questioning. The Telangana police are working with Interpol to ensure his return. The matter has also been taken up with the US Consulate and India’s Ministry of External Affairs for help through diplomatic channels.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has asked journalist Aruvela Shravan Kumar Rao to hand over his mobile phone and SIM cards within a week. He is also linked to the phone tapping case.
Shravan recently returned from the US after his passport was cancelled. He appeared before the SIT for the first time on March 30 and was questioned at the Jubilee Hills ACP office.
He is listed as the sixth accused in the phone tapping case, which took place during the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, just before the Telangana Assembly elections.
