Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is planning to improve the living conditions in municipal corporations and selected municipalities around Greater Hyderabad. He aims to develop these areas into future investment hubs.

Currently, the Chief Minister also oversees the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department. He wants to make a significant impact on how urban local bodies in the state function. The previous government had increased the number of municipalities to 129 and created 13 municipal corporations. However, most of these areas still lack a master plan for integrated development.

According to top sources, a study is being conducted to understand the current state of development in the newly formed municipalities and assess the civic infrastructure available in each urban body.

The MA&UD department is preparing a detailed report to analyze the progress of all municipalities and municipal corporations outside Greater Hyderabad. The five new municipal corporations—Khammam, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, and Ramagundam—are facing significant challenges in becoming well-developed local bodies.

Poor drainage, a lack of sanitation, inadequate drinking water supply, and poor road networks are some of the common problems in these areas, as well as in many other municipalities. Despite large amounts of money being spent by the previous government, these issues persist.

The Chief Minister is determined to solve these problems and make each municipality and municipal corporation more developed. The MA&UD department is also identifying growth opportunities in each municipal corporation and selected municipalities to help them become investment hubs and generate revenue.

Once the MA&UD department completes the status report, the Chief Minister will hold a meeting with officials from all municipal bodies. He is ready to allocate sufficient funds to promote each municipality as a center of economic activity, similar to how Greater Hyderabad is being developed. The goal is to turn Telangana into a fast-growing urban state in the country within a set timeframe.
