GHMC prepares for smooth Ganesh idol immersion in city

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set up everything needed for a smooth, safe, and eco-friendly Ganesh idol immersion.

On Monday, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan and Additional Commissioner Raghu Prasad checked the arrangements for the immersion at Necklace Road. They visited places like People’s Plaza, Sunrise Point, Lake View Park Bathukamma Pond, and Sanjeevaiah Park Baby Pond. They looked over the barriers, lighting, cranes, and control rooms. Commissioner Karnan confirmed that 20 major lakes and 72 artificial ponds are ready for immersion under GHMC’s guidance. GHMC has provided funds and infrastructure to ensure everything goes smoothly.

There are 134 static cranes and 259 mobile cranes ready at all major lakes. At Hussain Sagar, 9 boats, Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams, and 200 trained swimmers are on standby with help from the Tourism Department. Also, 13 control rooms are in place with police support.

Along the main procession route, 160 Ganesh Action Teams are ensuring safe idol processions. To keep the area clean, 14,486 sanitation workers are working in three shifts. Since the festival started, GHMC has moved 3,000 metric tons of waste to dumping sites using 125 JCBs and 102 mini-tippers. At immersion points, 39 mobile toilets are available. Across routes and locations, 56,187 temporary lights have been installed. Additionally, 7 medical camps with ambulances are ready to operate in shifts.

For road safety, GHMC has repaired over 90% of potholes in Greater Hyderabad, with teams fixing any remaining damage from rains. Commissioner Karnan urged organizers to bring idols on time to ensure an orderly immersion. He also asked devotees to dispose of waste at designated spots along the routes.
