Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) decided to seek new tenders for maintaining LED street lights in the city. This decision was made unanimously on Wednesday during a special meeting at the GHMC head office, led by Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi.
The current contract with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has ended. GHMC’s electrical department suggested two options: renew the EESL contract with new terms or invite new tenders through a transparent process. After reviewing a presentation from electrical engineer Venugopal Reddy, which highlighted past service issues with EESL and proposed improvements, the committee chose to invite new tenders.
The new tender will address previous issues and include phased replacement of existing lights, installation of new LED street lights, Centralized Control and Monitoring System (CCMS) boxes, and comprehensive maintenance of the lighting system.
Mayor Vijayalakshmi stressed the importance of uninterrupted street lighting and instructed zonal commissioners to manage maintenance until the new service provider is selected.
