The Karimnagar district administration has approved the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the redesign and reconstruction of the Kalvala project (Kesavapatnam project) in Shankarpatnam mandal. The funding for this project, which amounts to Rs 18 lakhs, comes from the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) interest fund.
Vinod Kumar, the vice chairman of the planning commission, informed Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao about the situation and received approval for the total redesign and reconstruction of the irrigation tank. The tank, which was built in 1970, was breached due to recent heavy inflows and continuous rainfall in July. It had a capacity of 2245 cusecs and provided irrigation for 2030 acres of land, as well as employment opportunities for fishermen. The breach caused the project to dry up completely and submerged more than 400 acres of crops.
GV Ramakrishna Rao, the president of BRS Karimnagar District and the head of SUDA, expressed gratitude towards the vice chairman of the TS Planning Board for approving the funding. He stated that farmers in the mandals of Husnabad, Veenavanka, Shankarpatnam, and Saidapur would benefit from the project’s redesign and restoration. He also mentioned that the project would be completed as soon as possible to support the local farming and fishing community.
