The State Government in Hyderabad has proposed new plans for the Metro Rail project. The Chief Minister wants to connect the airport area to Kandukur on the Srisailam highway and create a mega township on lands already acquired for the Pharma city. Additionally, the Metro phase III plans will expand from JBS Metro station to Shameerpet and from Paradise Metro station to Kandlakoya/Medchal.
The Chief Minister reviewed the phase II proposals and suggested examining the feasibility of widening the road from Darulshifa Junction to Falaknuma junction. He wants to ensure that none of the identified 103 religious, heritage, and other sensitive structures in the Old City are adversely impacted during road widening and Metro Rail planning. If necessary, he will personally inspect and involve public representatives in this process.
The Chief Minister also directed a change in the Airport Metro plan. Instead of the earlier plan, the Airport Metro connectivity will be planned from MGBS via the Old City and from LB Nagar, bridging the remaining gap of 5 km from Nagole to LB Nagar stations. Traffic studies and DPRs will be conducted for this revised alignment.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister asked for the examination of laying a part of the Metro at road level in the Laxmiguda-Jalpally-Mamidipally stretch, where a 40-ft-wide central median is available without any obstructions. Plans for this integrated approach will be prepared and a letter will be drafted to the Union Minister for Urban Development and Housing.
The Chief Minister instructed incorporating Metro Rail in the Musi river front East-West corridor from Taramatipet to Narsingi via Nagole and MGBS. These plans will be developed by the HMRL MD and HMDA commissioner and a letter will be sent to the Union Minister in the coming days.
